The Global Symposium aims to bring together leading scholars and thought leaders in virtual exchange from around the world to explore its future development. The COVID-19 pandemic has given impetus to the large-scale implementation of VE in many universities around the world. As we return to in-person instruction, VE remains a potentially critical component of higher education broadly and global education specifically as it has demonstrated promising results in developing students’ cultural knowledge, language ability and technical skills. It is time to reconsider the role and responsibility of virtual exchange in a global context with experiences and insights from across different disciplines.

This symposium is curated by the College of Education at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with the support of The Center for Global Studies (CGS) and European Union Center (EUC), with an anticipated audience of about 50 people from different countries and continents, consisting of professors, educators, middle school teachers and undergraduate students.

The event is scheduled in a hybrid format for May 5th, from 9 am to 2 pm Central time.
