The AACC first-year internship program provides first time interns an opportunity to undertake creative and challenging assignments that promote cross-cultural understanding and provide educational and cultural support for Asians and Asian Americans in our university community. This unique experience will be offered as a 2- unit Global Studies 199 class where interns will attend a weekly seminar to develop professional skills and learn about Asian American and Asian international identities. All interns must register for the 2-unit course.

The AACC first-year internship program is open to all University of Illinois Urbana- Champaign undergraduate students and majors.

Requirements:

  • Enroll and participate in Global Studies 199 (2-unit course)
    • Weekly class meeting on Tuesdays from 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM (may be subject to change)
    • Readings and reflection papers
    • Research and projects on diverse topics
    • Cross-cultural explorations
  • Assist with AACC front desk operations for approximately five (5) hours per week
    • Assist with front desk reception, opening and closing of the building, and other assigned projects.

Potential Opportunities:

AACC interns will have opportunities to be involved in several areas within the AACC and may focus on any of the following areas: Office support, event programming, and marketing.

Below are some past examples of projects, events, and initiatives led by the interns:

  • Office Support: Manage space reservations from campus partners and organizations, keep inventory of resources and supplies, update databases and logs, and update library collection.
  • Event Programming: Plan and support program efforts such as Food for Thought, Themed Meals (Diwali, Lunar New Year, Eid), South Asian Leadership Conference (SAALC), Art Exhibit, and Leadership Awards.
  • Marketing: Assist with AACC newsletter, update the website, advertise events, design flyers, photograph events, and create bulletin boards on variety of topics.

  • Applications are due on March 8, 2023, at 11:59 PM CST.
