The Japan Foundation (JF) is pleased to announce an open call for grant programs for the fiscal year 2025-2026. JF offers fellowship opportunities and institutional support programs for the development of Japanese Studies in the United States. Japanese Studies Fellowship Programs provide support to outstanding scholars, researchers, and PhD candidates in the field by offering the opportunity to conduct research in Japan. The deadline for fellowship applications is December 1st, 2024. Projects must be in the humanities, social sciences, and/or comparative research.

Applications are also now open for our Institutional Project Support (IPS) Grant Program and our Institutional Project Support (IPS) - Small Grant Program. These grant programs support Japanese Studies at institutions, primarily colleges and universities. A concept paper for these grants is due October 31st, 2024, and the proposal deadline is due December 2nd, 2024.

Online Information Session for Fellowship Application

The Japan Foundation, New York will be offering an online information session about the Japanese Studies Fellowship application for 2025-2026 over Zoom. The information session will be held on Thursday, October 10th from 6pm-7pm EST. In this session, the Japanese Studies team at JFNY will explain the application process for the Long-Term, Short-Term and Doctoral Fellowships, as well as answer any specific questions that potential applicants may have.
