- Abstract: Kim, Chung Up, a prominent South Korean architect and educator, played a pivotal role in the birth of modernism in Korean architecture. He was the first Korean disciple of Le Corbusier and contributed to the design of the Palace of the Assembly in Chandigarh. In the 1960s, Kim, Chung Up led the planning of the new campus for the National Jeju University on Jeju Island and left behind numerous significant works in Jeju. His magnum opus, the now-vanished ‘Old Main Building of Jeju University,’ is regarded as a masterpiece. This lecture aims to explore the architecture left by Kim, Chung Up on Jeju and understand the message he intended to convey to the young college students at Jeju University
