Seeking Graduate Teaching Assistants for renewable appointment at 50% beginning SU22

Primary Position Function/Summary:

  • To provide programmatic support for the LAS Global Leaders Program (GLP) and instructional support for LAS 100 (FA22) and LAS 399 – a professional development course for LAS 100 interns (SP23). LAS 100 supports first-year international students in their transition to the University during the first 8 weeks of the Fall semester. All courses are administered through the Student Academic Affairs Office (SAAO) within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS).
  • GLP unites first-year domestic and international students through local and global community engagement and project-based learning. The TA will assist with the programmatic support of GLP throughout the academic year where two cohorts will be taking courses and involved in community engagement simultaneously.
  • The TA will also provide instructional support for the above courses by conducting research for curriculum development and facilitating classroom instruction.
  • Complete other duties as needed including, but not limited to, the support of the LAS International Student Advisory Board (ISAB) and social media.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

LAS 100

  • Instruct classes and facilitate small and large group discussions in LAS 100.
  • Supplement existing course curriculum by researching and developing course materials and activities related to social justice, social identities, critical global studies, intercultural competency, etc.
  • Maintain frequent communication with mentors assigned to students in your section.
  • Supervise and support the cohort of interns assigned to your section through coursework and weekly meetings.
  • Grade student reflections and final paper on Canvas.
  • Assist with recruiting and interviewing new GLP participants.
  • Research and develop course materials related to social justice, design thinking/innovation, critical global studies, intercultural competency, etc.
  • Frequently communicate with community partners and professional mentors for student evaluation purposes.
  • Assist with event planning for the bi-annual Kickoff and Social Innovation Forum.
  • Assist with the development of the program through supporting course/program evaluations and assessments.
  • Provide classroom instruction and facilitate group discussions.
  • Grade students’ attendance and assignments on Canvas.

*During the beginning of the Fall semester, some TAs will teach 2 LAS 100 courses while others will split their appointment time between LAS 100 and GLP. When Part B of the Fall semester commences, all TAs will engage primarily in GLP responsibilities.
