1. Japanese Studies Fellowship Program: deadline December 1, 2023

  • Funding opportunity: Projects must be in the humanities, social sciences, and/or comparative research
  • Benefits: Includes airfare, insurance, settling-in and departure allowances, monthly stipend, dependent allowance, enrollment fees (may vary depending on program)

2. Institutional Project Support (IPS) Program for Japanese Studies: Concept Paper due October 31, 2023

  • Funding opportunity: Support for tenure-track positions in Japanese Studies
  • Benefits: Maximum of $150,000 per year for up to three years

3. Institutional Project Support (IPS)-Small Grant Program: Concept Paper due October 31, 2023

  • Funding opportunity: Support for infrastructure building for Japanese Studies
  • Benefits: Maximum of $25,000 for up to one year 

4. Grant Program: Japan – U.S. Global Partnership: Deadline December 1, 2023    

  • Funding opportunity:  Supports projects that help resolve global issues through U.S.-Japan collaborative efforts and the individuals behind such projects

5. Japan-U.S. Global Partnerships Grant Small: Rolling Deadline

  • Funding opportunity:  Support to create and develop networks between the U.S. and Japan to help resolve common social issues
  • Benefits: Maximum of $10,000 for up to one year 

7. Ishibashi Foundation / The Japan Foundation Fellowship for Research on Japanese Art: Deadline: November 30, 2023

  • Funding opportunity:  Supports Japanese visual arts specialists, curators and researchers, to conduct research in Japan 

8. JFNY Grant for Japanese Studies: Rolling Deadline

  • Funding opportunity:  Supports projects that will enhance further understanding of Japan through academic exploration
  • Benefits: Maximum of $5,000 for up to one year
