Student Paper Prizes: The 72nd Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs (MCAA 2023)

Date
05/15/23

Dear colleagues and friends,

I write to you today as the Vice-President of the Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs (MCAA), which is our regional branch of the Association for Asian Studies. As you may know, in addition to a stimulating and convivial annual conference, MCAA offers a number of prizes for exceptional student work. This year, I am responsible for coordinating the prize competition, and I'm writing today to ask your help in spreading the word about the student prizes, and to solicit submissions from eligible students.

If you have students, graduate or undergraduate, who have written good papers on topics related to Asian Studies in any field, I ask that you encourage them to submit their essays for the prizes described in the attached document. Details and submission guidelines for the Percy Buchanan Graduate Prize, and the undergraduate Sidney DeVere Brown and Mikiso Hane Prizes can also be found at https://asia.isp.msu.edu/mcaa/ under the "Prizes and Awards" tab. This year’s deadline for submitting papers is June 2, 2023.

Awards for undergraduates and graduate students include prizes and travel funds as well as conference presentation and publication opportunities. This year’s MCAA will take place from September 29-October 1, 2023, at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Please feel free to forward this email to other colleagues and students, and please contact me by email with any questions.

Thank you for supporting MCAA and our students!

Best wishes,

Michel Hockx 賀麥曉
